The entire existence of Integrated Bodies stems from trying to solve a problem that has been bugging myself for the better part of 12 years. As a young and ambitious footballer, all I ever wanted to do was play in the NRL (National Rugby League). With the exceptional work ethic and drive my dream was inevitable. Unfortunately though on one brisk winter afternoon at playing against Tieri, I dislocated my right shoulder, (i can still remember the tackle). This injury at the time was pretty difficult to bounce back from, but it certainly didn't deter my goals of making it to the big league.

Over the next twelve months, I was plagued with ongoing shoulder injuries, anxiety and self-doubt which inevitably left me lacking confidence in my abilities and body. After my first shoulder reconstruction at 15years old, I was determined to get back to my best form. I decided to walk into Moranbah gym and get to work on my rehab. The problem was though, I had no speciality support. I had no idea what I was doing. I watched all the big bodybuilders and just copied, monkey sees, monkey do. I did get strong , but I was still weak mentally.

As I returned to football, it became pretty apparent to me deep down inside (although not recognising it at the time) that I suffered from trust issues within my own body. I had the pressures from my coach and from myself to perform, yet all I could think was, gee I wonder if this next tackle is going to put my shoulder out again? It was horrible. I sore my dream slipping from my fingers.

In 2009 I played my last game of football. I'm not going to lie. I still get that awkward feeling in my stomach knowing that I gave up on my dreams to play in the NRL, it sucks.

Fast forward 10+ years and a second shoulder reconstruction later I realised that there is still the same problem occurring today in our young athletes as I experienced in 2006.  That's why I co-founded Integrated Bodies with my partner Jorja, and that's why the Integrated Bodies Athletic Development Program exists today! From my perspective, no one's supporting young athletes the way I wish I was supported back in 2006.

After teaming up with the brilliant high-performance sports coach Alex Kertesz (BExSc(Hons), ASCA-PSP, CSCS) in early 2018, we have put our minds, our passion for youth support and developemt together to designed the most well rounded Athletic Development Program with the Bowen Basin, if not the rest of the country.
