 Danny Quirk

Danny is a Massachusetts-based illustrator, anatomical artist, and recent convert to body painting. Having spent years working in watercolors and other traditional media, the body has always fascinated him, and been a central subject in many of his works. In 2011, his “Self Dissection” series garnered the attention of a promising young doctor, Dr. Frank Scali, and Quirk became the lead illustrator for his publications in Clinical Anatomy, Spine Journal, and Annals of Anatomy. In 2012, Quirk utilized the body to paint the body, and gained much momentum in both the artistic and scientific communities. Quirk took Dooley’s Gross Anatomy class in the summer of 2013. Here, he gained coveted, first hand cadaver dissection experience, as well as an unexpected platform to utilize his body

paintings in an educational setting. The paintings on the body proved to be a wonderful bridge between the textbook and the cadaver for students, and almost immediately, the potential for high end anatomical body paintings was realized, thus resulting in the conception of Immaculate Dissection. To date, Quirk has been featured in medical journals such as Clinical Anatomy, Spine Journal, and Annals of Anatomy, given talks at the Mayo Clinic, and various colleges throughout the U.S. He’s been written up in Smithsonian Magazine, featured in TED Talks, and in many science blogs / magazines, such as The Scientist, Proto Magazine, as well as I F*cking Love Science.

Anna Folckomer,        MsTOM, DAOM

Dr. Anna Folckomer is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Certified Herbalist practicing in midtown Manhattan, NY. As a previously classically trained modern dancer, her understanding of kinesthetics sparked her interest in functional anatomy and movement therapy. Her choreography and performance work has been seen on stages around the United States and England in settings such as The American Dance Festival, The American Collge Dance Festival, Washington’s Turnage Theater, East Carolina Loessin Theater and Leicester’s DeMontfort University Theater.

Dr. Folckomer met Danny Quirk in 2013, while participating in Cadaver dissection and assisting Dr. Dooley’s Gross Anatomy class. Afterwards, they teamed up again with body paint to promote Gunther Von Hagen’s Body World’s Pulse Exhibit at Discovery Center in Times Square. She received her clinical Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine.

Getting To Mackay

Mackay is located about 12 hours (1000kms) north of Brisbane in Queensland Australia. Getting to Mackay is pretty simple with direct or connecting flights from most major cities with in Australia.

If you are flying from Sydney or Melbourne and you are looking at hiring a car, I’d personally recommend flying to Proserpine first and driving down. The flights via Jetstar and Tiger are direct and cheap as! The airport code of Proserpine is Proserpine Whitsundays Coast (PPP) and Mackay is MKY. From here its only a 60min drive south to Mackay.

If you have any questions about flights or accomodation please feel free to email us via the form below.
